++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): Basic - Naja ...
Als totaler Anfänger am Bass habe ich mir einfach mal 2 Lehrbücher
bestellt. Einmal Billy Sheehan - Basic Bass und dann noch "Four Strings"
von Tom Bornemann.
Und wenn man beide Werke vergleicht, hat dises Buch eigentlich keine
Chance.
Negativ:
- sehr kurzes Buch, nur 32 Seiten
- die meisten Themen werden zu knapp abgehandelt
- für "absolute beginners" (wie der Autor es selber sagt) geht vieles
zu schnell. So kommt man z.b. schon auf S.13 zu Slap, Pop und Hammer-on.
Positiv:
- die DVD gefällt mir gut. Man sieht wie es richtig gemacht wird, was
vor allem das Technik lernen sehr erleichtert.
- als Nachschlagewerk zusätzlich zum Unterricht bei einem Basslehrer
gut geeignet
Es ist sicher kein schlechtes Buch, denn man bekommt viele
Informationen über den Bass an sich, Amps und alles, was man als Anfänger
braucht. Nur ist es eben KEIN Lehrbuch im Sinne von Unterrichtsersatz.
++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): Sehr guter Einstieg
Die DVD ist sehr gut gemacht: sinnvolle Kapitelaufteilung, gute
Kamerapositionen mit genügend Fokus auf den Details, ausführliche, aber
nicht epische Erklärungen.
Den Schwerpunkt verspricht Billy Sheehan auf die blutigen Anfänger zu
legen und ich fühlte mich davon auch immer angesprochen (bin eben diese
Zielgruppe). Selbst Themen, wie Wechsel der Saiten, Stimmen, etc. sind ihm
nicht zu langweilig.
Das schnell gesprochene Englisch versteht man gut, wenn man den fast
wörtlich abgedrucken Text des Begleitheftes vorher gelesen hat.
Einen echten Kurs bringt man in der Laufzeit einer DVD natürlich
nicht unter und die Themen sind auch nicht auf direktes Nach- oder
Mitmachen ausgelegt (deshalb nur 4 statt 5 Sterne). Jedoch als Einführung
ist die DVD sehr gut und vor allem motivierend. Selbst als
Entscheidungshilfe für den Bass als Instrument würde ich sie empfehlen.
+++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): Der perfekte Einstieg!
"Basic Bass" - Der Name ist Programm. Wer ernsthaftes Interesse am
Bass-Spiel hat und wissen möchte, worauf es WIRKLICH beim Einstieg in die
Materie ankommt, der sollte sich dieses Buch + DVD zulegen. B. Sheehan
demonstriert und erläutert in ca. 90 min. DVD alles; von der Auswahl des
richtigen Instruments, über Spielhaltung, Fingertechniken, bis zu
professionell gespielten Scales und Bass-Lines. Auch die simpelst anmutende
Übung, ist dabei elementar wichtig und wird Schritt für Schritt
demonstriert, um Fehler schon im Ansatz zu vermeiden. Es braucht keinerlei
Vorkenntnisse für den Einstieg, jedoch ist man schon lange kein Anfänger
mehr, wenn man all das hier Dargebotene eines Tages beherrscht. Sheehan
geht es dabei wirklich um das Lehren echter Grundlagen und deren späteren
Einsatz in der musikalischen Praxis. Probleme mit der DVD sollte nur
derjenige haben, der nicht über genügend Kenntnisse im Verstehen des
gesprochenen Wortes in englischer Sprache verfügt, denn Sheehan spricht
recht schnell. Hier wird jedoch der Buchtext helfen, der nahezu identisch
mit dem der DVD ist und sich relativ leicht übersetzen lässt.
+++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): Interessantes nicht nur für Anfänger
Folgende Themen werden behandelt: Wahl eines Instruments EQ
Einstellungen eines Amps Grundlegende Technik der linken und rechten Hand
Hinweis zum Timing (incl. Vorschlag wie man üben sollte) Unterschiedliche
Stile (Slap + Pop, 2- und 3-Fingertechnik) Übungen um sich spielerisch zu
verbessern Wechsel einer Seite Wer sich das Bass Spielen selber beibringen
will, sollte auf jeden Fall dieses Werk kaufen, aber auch geübte Bassisten
finden sicherlich einige interessante Hinweise (z.B. zur Haltung,
3-Fingertechnik). Das Buch enthält die Hauptaussagen von Billy auf der DVD
sowie die Noten für die auf der DVD gezeigten Übungen. Fortgeschrittene,
die kein Interesse an dem (nicht sehr umfangreichen) Notenmaterial haben,
sollten beachten, dass die DVD auch ohne Buch erhältlich ist. Billy
Sheehan hat auch ein vergleichbares Werk für Fortgeschrittene
herausgegeben, wobei ich die Meinung vertrete, dass man sich beide Werke
von Billy (Basic Bass und Advanced Bass) einmal anschauen sollte. Für mich
hat sich der Kauf dieses Werkes auf jeden Fall gelohnt, weil ich viele
Vorschläge zum ersten Mal gehört habe. (Buch und DVD sind in Englisch)

It's not just fans of the film Billy Elliot that are going to love
this book. The choice of Melvin Burgess to novelise the hugely successful
Billy Elliot screenplay by Lee Hall is inspirational and yields its own
rewards beyond the obvious one of revisiting, with compulsive detail, the
story of Billy's ballet passion as seen on film. Burgess is already a
much-admired author of several significant books featuring disaffected
youth and gutsy teenage drama like Junk and Bloodtide . His
interpretation of Billy Elliot , written with additional character
insights and advice about unused film scenes as supplied by Lee Hall, has
the effect of it almost reading like a sequel - there's so much more to
read about, so much more of Billy's motivation and family background on
display. The story of Billy Elliot told in the book is sometimes
brutal, with its aptly gritty dialogue, yet it is also engrossing,
emotional and well-told. It was all of these qualities to the beat of a
foot-tapping soundtrack that made the film a massive international hit. Set
against the backdrop of the mining strikes that gripped Britain in the
early Eighties, Burgess reveals Billy to be an honest northern lad who
doesn't like his politically-obsessed, bullying elder brother, nor the fact
that his mam died of Cancer two years previously. He especially doesn't
like the way his dad won't let him do ballet instead of boxing. Billy's
good at something for the first time in his life and he won't give it up
easily, despite his immediate family's perilous financial woes. The strike
is biting and his dad goes bonkers when he finds out about Billy's private
dance tuition -- so the air is understandably filled with tensions aplenty.
His mates are ribbing him at school about his dancing. His brother is at
his father's throat because they disagree about how to settle the strike.
His nana, who could have been a professional dancer, is going increasingly
senile. There's lots to resolve if Billy's life is to start running more
smoothly. Burgess tells the story of the film to great effect from his
trademark multiple viewpoints. He gets under the skin of each character in
turn and lays them bare as they each get involved more deeply in the
unfolding story of Billy's passion. From anybody but Melvin Burgess, a
novelisation of Billy Elliot might not have been a book worth paying a
whole lot of attention to. As it stands, its an indispensable slice of
teenage life that's definitely worth reading, and keeping, and which will
probably stay around at least as long as memories of it's big screen

++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): Sehr gut für den Anfang
Es gibt wohl zwei Ansätze zum Modelposing: ein Posing Buch in die Hand
nehmen um dem Model zu zeigen, was man eigentlich möchte, oder zu verstehen
was Posing eigentlich bedeutet und die Anweisungen verbal zu geben. Dieses
Buch beschreibt letzteres und gibt meiner Meinung nach gute Hinweise zu dem
was gut und schlechtes Posing ausmacht. Wie alle amerikanischen Bücher ist
es recht einfach zu lesen und mit einem leichten Plauderton versehen. Für
mich ist es ein sehr gutes Buch, da es genau das abdeckt, was ich gesucht
habe: zu verstehen, was eine gute Pose ausmacht.

+++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): Es lohnt sich
Billy Joel - diese Songs sind es allein schon wert mit Klavierspielen
anzufangen. Ein Genuss, die größtenteils sehr gut arrangierten Stücke zu
spielen. Die Melodiestimme ist in der Klavierstimme enthalten, so ist das
Klavier-Solo auch ohne Gesang vollständig. Nicht alle Stücke sind für
Anfänger geeignet. Root Beer Rag, Stiletto und Prelude haben\'s in sich,
aber die Mühe des Einstudieren lohnt sich wirklich. M.B.
++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): Finally, it really IS complete
The first several editions of "Billy Joel Complete" were glaringly
INCOMPLETE in that they didn\'t include sheet music for his first solo
album, "Cold Spring Harbor." Now, granted - even Billy doesn\'t care much
for the music on that album, but "Complete" was definitely a misnomer.
Until this edition! Now, unfortunately, it\'s not really complete because
"River of Dreams" was released afterwards; but good sheet music is
available for that album as well. Now that the collection is
comprehensive, my only real complaint is that the transcriptions don\'t
include the solos and other idiosynchrocies, just the basics (though
Billy\'s "basics" are often more complex than other pianists\' solos). But
other than that, they don\'t simplify at all - so if you\'re fairly serious
about piano, this book will give you the roadmap you need to learn how to
play Billy\'s songs.

great titles is exhilerating!

This has excellent piano transcriptions for a lot of Billy Joel songs.
If you are a big Billy Joel fan and can play the piano I would definetly
recommend this book. Also a good book to look at after volume 1 would be
volume 2 or 3 or if you dont want to buy all of the books seperately you
can buy Billy Joel Complete 1&2 which is one book but incudes all of the
songs from those books. Either way this would be a great book to buy.

If youre looking for something just to give you an idea of how to play
a lot of Billy Joel songs, this book can be helpful. It has just about
every song in it up until the river of dreams. Songs like Prelude/Angry
Young Man, and Shes Got a Way are nicely done in this book. But others
only give you the piano parts to play the melody, so if you want to play
the music instrumentally only, this is a good book. However, if youre
like I am and you want to start playing the music and singing along with
it(playing in a band), then you should look at the Billy Joel Keyboard
book which has 14 or so songs which have the original transcripts, what
you actually here him playing on the piano on the album. This is by far
my favorite piano book that I own. It is however for the experienced piano
players, because of its detail.

Dieses Buch gehört wirklich zu den besten Klaviernoten die mir bisher
untergekommen sind. Endlich kann man die besten (und es sind wirklich alle
wirklich guten Lieder bis auf "Leningrad" dabei) Stücke des genialen
Songwrites Billy Joel nachspielen. Und der Schwierigkeitsgrad der Songs ist
größtenteils, obwohl man es beim Hören nicht vermutet, auch für Anfänger
angemessen und lässt einem Gelegenheit auch mitzusingen. Ein klasse
Notenbuch, das seinesgleichen sucht.

The Best book so far to impress friends, out of the Bruce Springsteen
greatest hits or the ultimate Elton John Collection. The Billy Joel
Authentic keyboard is to play your favourite songs JUST as the artist
recorded them IN KEYBORD obviously though it features guitar chords. The
Introductions to most of the songs are exactly the same, best for solo

+++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): The Best Billy Joel Music Book on the Market By Far
This is so well done it makes me mad that there aren\'t many other books
like it. I really wish they would have more editions so that i could learn
more Billy Joel songs this way. It takes us through 15 songs just the way
you hear it played by Billy himself, and even if you cant play this book
through note for note (it is difficult stuff) right away, it helps with
practicing music that is fun to play. The songs range from She\'s Got a Way
and Just the Way You Are, to Streetlife Serenader and the great intro to
New York State of Mind. A must buy for any Billy Joel fan who plays
keyboards.

The different style of the book in which it\'s what he plays rather than
banal arranged sheet music makes it wonderful to play. For someone who
can\'t play jazz/rock songs by ear, it\'s a great tool for some really fun
playing. Not much to say other than no billy joel should live without it.

suspense about the inevitable outcome. By constantly
shifting the narrative focus and point of view from Billy to some
of his cohorts, the women who loved them,
and the "lawmen" who sought them, Ondaatje avoids the
need for transitions which would normally challenge the
biographer of a legend. And by allowing time
to be circuitous, rather than linear, Ondaatje is able to give flesh
and bone to the impressions he creates by
enlisting the reader\'s help in "organizing"
his material. In short, this is an impressionistic word-painting which
gives freshness and vibrancy to an old saga
of the Wild West.

This collection of prose and poetry traces William Bonney\'s passage
across New Mexico. Some of the short passages (on average, one per page)
are Billy\'s voice, others Pat Garrett, some of Billy\'s friends, or his
girlfriend. This was a delightful discovery, being both a fan of great
writing and of westerns (you don\'t often encounter both in the same place).
Ondaatje\'s writing here reminded me strongly of ee cummings, which is a
very high compliment! Recommended!

This book of poetry is really unlike any other I have ever read (I
suppose with my limited experience, that might not be saying much, but bear
with me). Rather than dealing with the stereotypical internal issues of
the meaning of life and love that characterize many poetic endeavors,
Ondaatje takes a character most of us know and then presents him, through
various styles of poetry, in the gritty harshness that the subject, Billy
the Kid, would require. There are no pulled punches for the sake of
beauty, and the poems work all the more effectively because we understand
the at-least-partly factual nature of their characters, which are
strengthened through periodically injected novel-style passages. Of
course, for the narrative to come off successfully, Ondaatje must be open
to take certain liberties with the tale, which he gladly owns up to with
the book\'s opening blank photo of Billy. From that point on, the story is
dirty, nasty, cruel, affecting, and powerful. If there\'s ever been a
collection of poems that had the ability to get the "man\'s man" into the
art, this is it.

If you don\'t know much about William Bonney, a.k.a. Billy the Kid, or
if you think you do know all about him, this book will be a welcome
surprise. Ondaatje destroys all the stereotypes of Billy the Kid; he is no
longer just a violent outlaw. He is a poet, a lover, and a friend.
Through his own words and poems as well as the words of his close friends,
the reader gets a fuller and unique description of William Bonney.
Ondaatje blends poetry, pictures, and real newspaper accounts into this
very unique "novel." And, Ondaatje pulls it off so well that the reader
really believes that he is reading something written by William Bonney.
The poetry is beautiful and the story is captivating, even if you\'re not a
fan of "wild west" stories. This book is a one of a kind read.
