If you\'re at all interested in Robert Kennedy, this is the biography for you. Stunningly well written, and a joy to read. By far the best biography I\'ve read. I highly recommend this book.

All I can say is that I am truly sorry I missed the man and the time period. I borrowed the book from a friend wanting to learn more about my father\'s hero. I couldn\'t stop reading about the amazingly complex, sometimes flawed, man and his times. Now I find myself constantly wondering what it would have been like to live through the amazing highs and tremendous lows that RFK had to endure. I now quote him in school papers and refer to his philosophy in different social settings. Read this book and learn about the president that almost was. Read about the man that did so much for our country and could have done so much more. It hurts me to think of what could have been if only he would have been allowed to live and fight. Schlesinger lays down the foundation of RFK\'s beliefs and strategies in an easy to read way. Needless to say, he is no longer only my father\'s hero, he\'s mine too.
++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): A fascinating and detailed whitewash of RFK
Based on what we now know about RFK, this book comes across as a total whitewash and canonization of him. The alleged extra-marital affairs are blown off or unmentioned. RFK came across as the closest thing to a living saint as one could find. Like most RFK bios, the assassination and the events following are not even touched upon. It seems as if the man left the ballroom at the Ambassador Hotel and was then taken to his funeral. In all, I would recommend this book for anyone wishing to read about RFK, but it\'s a little hard to read, knowing what we know now about him.
+++++ (ein Amazon Kunde): An ispirational and poetic tribute to a complex hero
This is my absolute favorite book in the world, and it is about my personal hero, so perhaps I am a bit biased. Yet this book spoke to me as few have. Robert Kennedy was among the most complex figures to appear on the American scene, and this is a balanced (though admittedly favorable) treatment of his fascinating life. Eminently readable, sometimes even beautifully written, Schlesinger\'s book seems to flesh Kennedy into a real person right before our eyes. What makes RFK such a hero to me is his humanity. He was not always perfect, not always easy, not always right. But he tried so hard, and worked so tirelessly, that even one who does not admire his social beliefs must respect his efforts. Though many mistrust him because of his late conversion to liberal politics, it is precisely this which makes him so salient a figure to me. As Schlesinger so effectively shows, Kennedy had an amazing ability to grow and change. He was ever in flux, constantly learning. This is why he would have made a great president, and this is why this book is still of so much import to the contemporary reader. As we look askance at a political community which does not seem to offer us sincerity, the picture of a fumbling, hard as nails, emotionally aroused, practical leader with a dedication to principle as well as an excellent political mind is refreshing. I recommend this book to everyone who still cares about the less fortunate in our society.

Schlesinger outdoes himself in the most thorough and fair biography of Robert Kennedy in print. As a Kennedy advisor for many hears, Schlesinger paints with deep and compelling account the words and actions, public and private, of RFK\'s short life. From his ambitous youth to his rise to national leadership in the mid 60s, Kennedy is shown to be deeply compassionate, capable, and immensely popular. Speaking to a crowd in a black ghetto the day of Martin Luther King\'s assination, Kennedy asked us all to dedicate ourselves "to tame the savageness of man and to make gentle the life of this world." It is clear that Kennedy dedicated his life to this. We are left to wonder how different our nation would be had he not been murdered during his presidential bid in 1968. Without sensationalizing any aspect of his or his brother\'s life, Schlesinger\'s biography is a detailed, fair, and very moving account of one of the most inspiring leaders of the 20th century.

Studying this book was worthwhile the time. Interesting articles about many facets of the offensive football game. Gives a good overview about many issues relevant for coaches. Do not expect a college-like study book, but a case study book, which elaborates on different topics. Some topics are dealt with in plenty, some topics are not touched at all. But still a very good book to understand the coaching part of football and to get an insight of some top coaches thinking.

This book is one of the most comprehensive guides to offense that I have ever encountered. It includes almost 750 diagrammed plays from some of the top names in football including Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne, as well as many other college and high school football coaches. This text would be a valuable addition to any coaches library. It will definitely add variety to any offense and add many new twists and schemes to any offense whether you have an option team or a passing based offense. I think it would be a very wise investment.

"Charlie Wilson\'s War: The Extraordinary story of the Largest Covert Operation in History," by George Crile is an eye-popping account of how a "rule-breaking" Congressman from the Bible Belt of east Texas took revenge on the Soviet Union for American blood spilled in Vietnam. The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan on December 27, 1979 and pulled out on February 15, 1989. All and all, 28,000 Soviet soldiers were killed in Afghanistan. Crile brilliantly documents how Charlie Wilson is the man that made it happen. Charles "Nesbitt" Wilson is a 1956 graduate of Annapolis who worshipped Winston Churchill and entered politics in 1961 at the age of 27 as Texas State Representative. Wilson won a seat to Congress in 1973 as a Liberal. He regularly voted against Vietnam and eventually became of strong defender of Israel. Wilson\'s appointment to the House Appropriations Committee and a strategic alliance with an irreverent street-wise CIA veteran named Gust Avrakotos ignited the biggest covert action since the Vietnam War. It wasn\'t easy...Wilson took on the CIA\'s regional masters and won. He did so by dramatically increasing CIA funding for the Afghan fighters. His primary mission was to find a weapon that could knock the powerful Russian Mi-24 Hind Helicopter gun ship out of the sky. The author is knowledgeable. He reports the towering importance of revenge in Afghan society. He also details the cruel and disturbing side of the Afghan tribal warriors. To this end, Crile shows how the Afghans were seen as freedom fighters before 9/11 and as terrorists afterward. Moreover, Crile explains how the Afghans grew confident with the defeat of a superpower. Ultimately, this book is a strong account of how the CIA funded the war against Moscow\'s army and how the defeat at the hands of the Afghans contributed to the demise of the Soviet Union. In conclusion, Crile must be commended for documenting a key piece of CIA history for "Main Street" America. Highly recommended. Bert Ruiz

Yes, the beginning of this book is rather silly (but lots of fun), then the book gets more and more serious and profound. The best part is the very ending, a chilling twist that says something vital and essential about the world we live in RIGHT NOW--a truth a great many people want to deny or ignore, obviously (you\'ll know what I mean when you read the book). Don\'t miss "The Futurological Congress" by Stanislaw Lem. (If you want more Lem, I also recommend "The Star Diaries" and "Return from the Stars".

I was surprised by how thoughtful the book turned out to be, given the way it began. I picked up this book for a college lit class not knowing at all what to expect. I loved the first 36 pages - the biting irony made me laugh out loud. After that it got dead serious. Lem raises some very tough questions, the main one being, "When does the government have the right to conceal the truth from the governed?" It was a roller coaster ride to read, but the ending was a real let-down.

I don\'t what made me pick this up when I was nineteen, but I\'ve never been the same since. Lem takes some of the hoariest cliches in the genre and rethinks them, never falling into the traps that are set for so much of the genre. This is science ficion with Idea as its character, extrapolation as its plot diagram. It is one of the smartest skiffy novels I have ever read.

Das Buch macht einen rundweg guten Eindruck: Ansprechend layoutet und hervorragend zu lesen, bietet es sowohl einen Einstieg in das Open Space-Konzept als auch umfangreiche Informationen und klasse Praxistipps. Es ist zudem so übersichtlich strukturiert, dass es auch als Nachschlagewerk bei der Organisation einen Open Space-Events benutzbar ist. Das Buch beinhaltet dabei sowohl eine Vorstellung des groben Konzeptes als auch sehr konkrete Anleitungen, was bei der Durchführung eines Open-Space-Events zu beachten ist - vorher, währenddessen und nachher. Selbst Hinweise zur Technik und zur nötigen Ausrüstung fehlen nicht. Das Buch hat mich so motiviert, dass ich tatsächlich eine Veranstaltung (erfolgreich) nach diesem Konzept organisiert habe. Faszinierend.
